Mikey first learned to crochet with his mother, who showed him how to chain and double crochet. Motivated, he bought a crochet stitch book. Inside the book were crochet diagrams to illustrate exactly where the stitches go. He learned to crochet using crochet diagrams as a tool, as his reading comprehension was weak.

Most of Mikey's patterns have professional-level crochet diagrams. It took him several years to hone his drawing skills, and the diagrams, together with the written instructions, made learning a lot easier.
